January 2015 marked the beginning of a new era for Gucci. Alessandro Michele was named Creative Director and after feasting their eyes on his Fall 2015 creations, the fashion world (and consumers alike) haven't been able to get enough. It's been a year of whimsical fashion that I describe as "glamorous vintage granny vibes" for the Italian house — and the Pre-Fall 2016 collection was no less.
In a September 2015 video interview with NYT, Michele says something that comes to mind each time I see a Gucci collection, ad, or think of him as a designer: "Old things make me feel very contemporary. It's really about that kind of contradiction between the past and the future." He basically summed up his aesthetic in these two sentences and although many of us wouldn't dare to wear a bright yellow cat sweater and a pink printed skirt (paired with satin blue heels, no less), there's an undeniable playfulness that makes me want to rethink my all-black fashion color palette.
Here's to having more fun with personal style in 2016. xx
