National Sunscreen Day
I honestly have no idea who comes up with all of these "National" days and while most seem pretty pointless this one is not. If you know me, you know I always talk about the importance of daily sun protection and my careless teenage years that left me with gross ass sun spots (I basically lived at the beach after school, during the weekends, and pretty much whenever I wasn't manning the register at Pac Sun or in school). Preaching aside, here are a few of my latest favorites that have been in rotation—reviews below!
1. Naturopathica Daily Defense Cream SPF 50 ($58): Irritant-free physical block (made with Zinc Oxide) perfect for sensitive skin. It's pretty lightweight for a chemical-free sunblock, and it blends nicely without leaving behind any chalky residue. It's also made with Green Tea Extract and Deep Sea Enzymes, for an added dose of Vitamin E and antioxidants.
2. Suntegrity Natural Mineral Sunscreen For Body SPF 30 ($24): There's a reason this bad boy is perpetually sold out: It's one of the highest-rated chemical-free sunscreens chock-full of antioxidants. The easy-to-blend formula is made with 20% Zinc Oxide and is infused with Green Tea, Cucumber, and Aloe extracts in addition to Sweet Orange and Grapefruit oils that give it its signature citrus scent.
3. Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion for Sensitive Skin SPF 50+ ($42): Shiseido is known for its high-performance sunscreens, and when I first tried this (before looking at the label) I thought, "There's no way this is mineral-based." Its milky-like lotion texture fooled me, but the sunscreen agents are indeed Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. It blends like a dream, doesn't leave you feeling greasy, and is one of the most impressive physical formulas I've come across. It also boasts WetForce technology which makes it so that you still have protection when you're sweating or exposed to water—but it's no excuse to skip continuous application throughout the day.
4. SkinMedica Total Defense Repair SPF 34 Tinted ($68): I have nothing against chemical sunscreens and this one is a favorite for days when I feel like wearing zero makeup, which is 99% of the time during the summer months. I recently discovered SkinMedica (late to the game, I know!) and I'm obsessed with the line (more on that in a different post)—and this tinted sunscreen was the gateway that led to my new found love. I don't normally have high hopes for tinted sunscreens but this one blew me away! The pump dispenser is really nice (mess free!) and the tint is enough to even out any redness and tiredness under the eyes. That's not even the best part for me: This beauty also protects against Infrared rays—MAJOR bonus. I wish it came in more shades, but the genertic shade worked for me and it's totally worth the splurge.
